Westgrove fought an internal battle over his song “Beautiful Crazy.” Thankfully the music won that battle.
Back in 2018 Brett Westgrove and his writing team sat down and penned a brand new song called “Beautiful Crazy”. They were immediately in love and knew they had something Westgrove fans would love just as much. However, before Westgrove could generate the funds needed to get the song into the recording studio (funds that were never actually gathered before he, instead, self-produced this very track in his bedroom) Luke Combs released a song inconveniently titled “Beautiful Crazy”.
The Westgrove team figured releasing the song now would create an undesirable stir. Having forgotten the old adage “no publicity is bad publicity” and not thinking anyone would understand how often it happens that two disconnected songs pop-up with the same name they held off. The fact that they wrote their song before Combs’ song was ever released made it all the more frustrating. Regardless, the song ended up sitting on a hard drive, in a drawer, in Westgrove’s bedroom in Nashville.
Fast-forward about two years: The world was on covid lockdown. Westgrove was spending much of his quarantine time live-streaming to YouTube from an AirBNB in central Wisconsin. After pulling “Beautiful Crazy” out for a couple quick preview runs the demand began to soar. Between his desire to release this song, the fans demand, and his sweet momma’s encouragement to put out what had become her fav song, he finally decided… he didn’t care who thought negatively – this song needed to be presented to the world. Once his quarantine time had finished Westgrove found himself at his family home in Wisconsin tweaking the song and training his brother to be a cameraman so he could shoot a video – the official video to this day.
